January 22, 2013 Luncheon Event: Engineered Technical Audits- What Are They, And Why Are They Important In New Condominiums?

This presentation will focus on the definition of a Technical Audit, a type of report becoming more prevalent in Alberta.  It will contrast a Technical Audit with a Reserve Fund Study, highlighting differences in purpose and content; discuss the importance of this type of report from a common property warranty standpoint; and will highlight impending government legislation involving new home warranty and its possible influence on Technical Audit reporting in the industry.

 Speaker: Michael Ball, P.Eng

Michael Ball is currently the Department Manager for the Building Science Group at Morrison Hershfield’s Calgary Office, and is a Principal of the firm, a North American-based consulting engineering company.  Michael has been employed with MH since 2000 and has been involved in a wide variety of projects since that time.  During Michael’s time at MH, he has been directly involved with the review and reporting associated with an extensive number of facility assessment projects, as well as numerous investigations, designs, and construction projects for commercial and residential complexes.  Michael’s expertise involves building envelope performance and durability.  He regularly writes and reviews facilities assessment reports such as Technical Audits and Reserve Fund Studies.  Michael also is currently on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Condominium Institute, South Alberta Chapter.
