CONDOMINIUM PROPERTY ACT: Balance protection for owners while allowing boards and corporations to run more effectively UPDATE:
CCI South Alberta: These Revised Regulation Changes Will Better Serve Condo Unit Owners
The Canadian Condominium Institute, South Alberta Chapter (CCISAC) is pleased to support the new Condominium Property regulations released by the Government of Alberta on November 27, 2019. In June 2019, Service Alberta Minister, Nate Glubish, acted upon concerns from condominium community stakeholders regarding the impending regulations which were to start being phased in starting July 1, 2019, by pausing legislation.
CCI South Alberta Chapter has been collaborating with the Government of Alberta to adjust and clarify the regulations striking a balance. We believe that many of the revisions have poised the condominium community for and equilibrium.
Ryan Coles, President, Canadian Condominium Institute, South Alberta Chapter, acknowledges Service Alberta’s engagement through the summer and fall and noted “There were a number of items in the proposed regulation changes from last December that we thought needed to be changed, or eliminated. We haven’t had a chance to review all in detail at this point. However, based on the feedback during meetings with Service Alberta, and the initial review of the release, it seems we have been heard and the thousands of condo unit owners we represent will be better served by these revised regulation changes. It’s not possible to make everyone happy with some of the contentious topics; however, the changes should be a step forward in improving the lives of the condominium unit owners, who are the most important stakeholders.”
The Alberta Government announced the changes to the Condominium Property Regulations will come into effect on January 1, 2020.
CCI South Alberta is proudly the voice of all condominium stakeholders; owners, boards, professional and industry. Our mission is to lead condominium owners and industry members through education and advocacy with integrity and professionalism.
